The Story Behind the Name Harmonite
People often ask where the name Harmonite came from, and it wasn’t the result of a big branding brainstorm or a whiteboard session. It just sort of… came together.
It began with harmony, that lovely word that means being in tune, in balance and at one with the world. My work has always been about that: finding balance with nature rather than trying to control it. I work with the seasons and let the natural world inspire me.
Then there’s the earthy side of it. So many crystals and minerals have names ending in -ite: malachite, fluorite, selenite, howlite. They take shape slowly, layer by layer, deep underground. That patience, that groundedness, that transformation over time, it all felt like a good fit.
And finally, I like that some groups of people also have -ite endings, like Mennonite, Ruralite, or Troglodyte (though hopefully I’m slightly less cave-dwelling). Those names suggest belonging and shared values. That felt right too, because the people who find their way to my stall or website tend to have that same connection to nature and simplicity. They’re my kind of -ites.
